The Leipzig publisher Bernhard Tauchnitz was among the most important international publishers of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. The paper and binding used by Tauchnitz for its books were above average in quality, and suitable for binding. Tauchnitz was also an important player in the development of international copyright.
