Sanjay Dutt's colourful life is set to make it to the big screen, courtesy Rajkumar Hirani. At a time when Bollywood actors try hard to maintain an image among their fans, Bollywood's very own Khalnayak never shied away from talking in public about his struggle with drugs and his jail stint. But the actor has mostly stayed mum on his love affairs back in the day.

One such affair which made headlines in the early 80s was between Sanjay and Tina Munim. Buzz has it that it was during the shooting of the 1981 film Rocky that Sanjay and Tina fell in love, and the two started dating. However, their love story came to an abrupt end, courtesy Sanjay's drinking problem and drug abuse. And reportedly, the two broke up.

If Yasser Usman's biography The Crazy Untold Story of Bollywood's Bad Boy Sanjay Dutt is to be believed, the actor found it hard to get over the break up. One evening back in 1982, Sanjay Dutt's neighbours woke up to the sounds of gunshots.

"Sanjay Dutt staggered around the compound of his family home, waving his loaded .22 bore rifle in the air. In a few minutes, concerned neighbours and curious onlookers had gathered outside and were trying to peer in. The young man seemed lost, confused and a bit dazed. Then he broke down. The sobs claimed his body as he clung to the barbed wire fence with his bare hands. Unmindful of his bleeding hands, Sanjay's cry rent the air: 'Why are you all scared of me? I am not a drug addict! I've given up on drugs!' It seemed that Tina's abandonment still haunted him.

It slowly became clear what had happened: in a haze induced by alcohol and heartbreak, Sanjay had opened fire in the air, breaking some windows of the Dutt mansion and shattering the windscreen of his car," read an excerpt from the book.

According to the book, Sanjay Dutt was alone at home. Sunil Dutt was in the US for a shoot and he had taken his daughters along. Jilted by the break up, an enraged Sanjay Dutt went on a shooting spree.

"In fact, just that evening Sanjay had dropped Gaurav to the airport, which was when he received the news that the shooting of Tina's film Souten had been wrapped up. Apparently, the crew had returned to India from Singapore. But Tina hadn't called Sanjay. As he got back home and reached for his liquor, he felt more and more rankled that Tina hadn't phoned him. They had broken up but Sanjay was in denial. He said, 'The shooting is over and everybody is back. But where is she? . . . I love her . . . I'll never be able to live without her.' As the night progressed, Sanjay got more and more drunk, and enraged. He then went on a dangerous shooting spree around the house."

The book further suggested that Sanjay snuck out of the house but was later arrested for his irresponsible behaviour.

Back in March when excerpts from Sanjay Dutt biography took the internet by storm, the actor slammed the author as well as the publishers over 'unauthorised' biography. He had said, "From the excerpts that are appearing in the newspaper are partly based on my old interviews, but rest all seemed to be based on hearsay, 1990s tabloids and gossip magazines, most of which are figments of imagination and not true."

In an official statement, Juggernaut Publication said, "We are sorry to hear that Mr Sanjay Dutt was upset by our book on him. The author, Yasser Usman, an award-winning journalist and reputed writer on Bollywood actors, is a fan and very sympathetic to Mr Dutt. Yasser has chosen his sources and materials with care. He has relied extensively on direct quotes from Mr Dutt, his close associates such as Mr Mahesh Bhatt, and members of the Dutt family. Moreover, as has been said in most of Yassers interviews and pieces in the press, he is a huge admirer of Mr Dutts honesty and lack of pretense and believes these qualities meaningfully set him apart from the rest of the film industry. The book is a homage to those admirable and rare traits of honesty and frankness. However, to pay respect to Mr Dutts wishes, we wont put out any more extracts from the book in short-form media."
